The Party Legend

Click on the image to view the video
I'm not sure which is the bigger story here, obnoxious kid or self righteous reporter plays judge and jury. Anyway it makes for a funny three minutes of viewing (almost as though it were straight from a movie). At least you get to see some famous sunglasses. Does anyone remember the party I threw in high school? Sometimes parties just get out of hand.

Conspiracy Theories

Here we can actually hear the thought process behind one of those conspiracies about what the "guberment's putt'n in our water". You just have to love people like this. Notice how she throws a couple of "big" words in there to sound like she knows what on earth she's talking about. (blaha blah metalized salts blah blaha bla)

What is great about America is they all get to vote too. I wonder who her and her friends are going to vote for in this coming election. This is the kind of stuff that should be keeping us up at night. It scares me to death, crazy rainbows.

I Love Engineers

This is a video that my brother-in-law, Bryce, sent me. Highlights include a demonstration of corporal cuddling and cat yodeling. I don't know how many engineers he knows, but to all of my close friends who are engineers... you know your laughing too.

Tones "Old People" Can't Hear

This might be old news to some of you but in case you've never tried it out.

New Death

If I was going to be made into a battery I would at least want to be a rechargeable. Would you want your last memorial to be a pencil? That would definitely put an end to pencil chewing and pencil fights though wouldn't it. What about the other uses of graphite? Wouldn't it be better to be put into the paint of some great sports car? How many people would it take to make a carbon fiber body panel? I wouldn't mind being compressed into a diamond as long as I wasn't put into an ugly setting afterwards, though I hear the process is kind of expensive.

The Killa cycle-One very fast bike (was)

I actually was at the Wired Nextfest that day but couldn't find the bike. Its probably a good thing. I'm not sure I would have wanted to see this. Its kinda sad. But WOW it looked fast.

More Incredible Robots

Sorry to be posting more robots again so soon but I've always been fascinated with them so here are a few more.

Festo's amazing pneumatic muscles. Looks like the NS-5's muscles in iRobot were base on this technology.

So the Titan 5 isn't technically a "real" robot it is pretty impressive.
you can see him in action here:

This is what very wealthy nerds do on weekends; haul half a million dollars worth of heavy machinery out into the desert to throw bowling balls at campers.

Spiders, bionic bugs, flying manta-rays and Dark Dinning

Ok, I have to admit I find these next couple links pretty cool.

"because it could be done."

A lot bigger but less cool.

Something I've always wanted to do but never have.

Very dangerous looking

Kinda reminds me of the ghosts in Super Mario Land.
But this is pretty dumb.

Apple: just a rebirth of Braun?

A good design philosophy is worth revisiting. Might Braun be the future of the Apple brand as well? They've already moved on to more than just the personal computing. Why not make the rest of the home their domain? In the home is where we have the strongest emotional response to the products around us. Our emotional response to music is what feeds the iPod craze. I could see Apple producing the perfect home infotainment system with a level of interconnectivity never before realized. They almost have all the pieces together already.

Our future?

Future Cities

For one of my current projects I'm examining urban expansion and specifically how our love affair with the automobile has influenced that expansion. I found numerous gems under these topics. This 1958 Disney film shows how some futurists can be incredibly intuitive on one hand and incredibly blind on the other. Featured are punch card GPS, night vision, urban sprawl, modern RVs, and road trains (kind of). I love the total disregard shown to the horrible effects of man's "progress to the perfect future" shown in this video. Its a little window into some of the minds that have formed the world we live in today.
The Internet.

Another great video from the same site. I always thought that internet commerce was a big miraculous technological accident. Apparently I was wrong. There were people trying to figure this system out since 1968. Check out those sweet flat screens! I'd love to see the rest of this video if anyone can find it, I haven't been able to yet.

Lol cats

Lol cats
Laura and I rediscovered lolcats last week. I thought I'd share a few of my favorites.
Because I know so many people that think they do.
I feel that way sometimes.
Reminds me of Fat Albert. "Hey hey hey!"
For those of you who know Ollie.
The way I feel after a good ride.

Its tough to get funnier (or dumber) than LOL cats. If you'd like to check out the current project to translate the entire bible into LOLcat go here.

I recommend this chapter of Job as a great example of the work they are doing. Srsly

Japan

Zuiikin English

Last year I worked on a project for a well known Japanese communication corporation. The project required an in-depth understanding of Japanese consumer culture. Being born and raised in white bread USA this required a lot of research. In lieu of an actual trip to Japan (because of budget constraints) I decided to spend a week of cultural immersion through the internet. Basically spent every waking moment watching youtube, following posts related to the topic, and eating Japanese takeout and purchasing other peoples data on the subject.
True the internet is not an accurate indication of average life... anywhere but it was something. I had no idea the weird junk I'd find. Here are just a few of the gems I'm willing to admit I found. There is some weird junk out there. This video, as funny as it is, isn't a joke. There are well over 30 such videos on Youtube alone. Somebody apparently made enough money off these language videos to have made quite a few of them.
In the quest for the most important phrases to know when traveling to the USA we have:
"I have a bad case of diarrhea.", "I was robbed by two men." and "Spare me my life"
